Chocolate dipped track bike

by jeffbean on July 13, 2009

It’s not often you see any bike in this hue. Given the introduction at the Tour de France of a new AG2R Mondiale kit, complete with brown bibs, helmet and jersey accents, I couldn’t resist posting this. The image comes courtesy of Brooklyn Machine Works in NYC. Here is link to the site. Chocolate Dipped Track Bike (my nickname for what if offically called the “Gangsta”) is the Tuesday Crave. A few fun facts: BikeCrave has counted visitors from more than 30 countries around the world, and 47 of the 50 United States. We’re not enormous but we’re getting around. A kind thanks to those of you who have retweeted past BikeCrave posts or forwarded a link to a friend. Please remember, Penny per mile is why I’m doing this.

My mileage / climbing stats for the most recent week ending Saturday, July 11: 158 gentle miles and only 8,700 feet of climbing. The week included a coastal ride that saw Rory Sutherland of OUCH Maxxis glide by about 25 mph into a headwind. Me? Holding about 22 mph with a good friend. Soon I’ll be easing back into the mountains, post Climb to Kaiser. That week saw 260 miles tallied and 22,000 feet of vertical gain. Hope you’re well. Be good.

  2. 2 girls, 1 bike = amazing The web is full of videos of bike messengers with “street cred” who ride fixies and risk their lives in big cities. But it’s not often you see something quite as stunning. I kid you not. Just under 4 minutes. Your jaw will drop. Don’t try this at home....
  3. A bike with your name Today I wish I had a different first name. Something like…“Guido.” If I did, I’d buy this vintage bike, learn French and strike up a conversation with the lovely folks at my local bakery. Guido has a certain toughness to it. The red Polchlopek (French/Dutch circa 1970s) bike below lives at...
  4. Paper bike OK, I admit it. I still like the feel of newsprint in my hands while sipping a hot cup of joe. The New York Times is my Sunday read of choice and inspiration for this weekend blog post. Because road bikes don’t feature chain guards, we roadies miss out on...
  5. Bike friends Bike friends. They’re invaluable. You may not always realize it. But without them, you’re a single rider, exposed to the elements and all the road can bring, both good and bad. Bike friends can make a ride at least twice as good as you thought possible — no matter the route...
