Do you ride with cycling cap underneath your helmet? Maybe just alone into the office? For a walk down to the corner for some espresso on a lazy Sunday? Then consider me your friend.
One of the easiest fashion statements you can make is not necessarily with your colorful racing kit. No, it’s what you put atop your head. That might be a “handful of grease” in your hair. It might be a dark night-watch beanie keeping your ears warm (I saw a couple this past weekend, pre-dawn in Malibu). And it might be a regular cycling cap with a short brim.
Yes, the cycling cap. How you wear one says much about who you are. Brim down over your eyes? Traditionalist. Brim in back, casting a shadow over your neck? Former baseball catcher, or sun escaper, extraordinaire. Brim up, riding high in front? Chris Horner. He’s a low-key stylist who knows how to pull off cycling cool while adhering to peloton culture. Hey, Eddy Merckx did it as the Cannibal. So can you. This approach of cap wearing is quite possibly also how Chris also got his nickname of “Redneck.” Zero coverage in back. Neck fully exposed to the July sun. Allez Chris. Allez. Photo credit: Graham Watson.

- PRO moment Ride a bike in San Diego long enough and you just might get lucky and experience a PRO moment. What’s that, you ask? It’s when you ride alone with a professional bike racer — even if only for a few fleeting minutes. It happened to me today. Here’s my story:...
- 10 reasons to ride in the rain Autumn brings falling leaves and cooler days. Sometimes a gentle rain. Well, in San Diego a steady drizzle may have to pass for rain. For now anyway. Today ushered in tiny particles of water. Enough of them to make motorists turn on their headlights. This type of sudden climate change...

I’m a brim up in the front guy. I have a couple for under the helmet to help with sweat absorption.
I’m a brim at the back sun escaper. The sun down here in South Australia can be quite nasty.. Love the cap..
