I heart Bianchi

by jeffbean on July 7, 2009

In the Brands section of this blog, I share my two bike favs: Moots and Specialized. I also tip my hand on an early crush and love I hold for Bianchi. I’m a bit of a hopeless romantic. The black-and-white images of Fausto Coppi at Zumwalt’s Cyclery in North Park near 30th Street drew me in. The color Celeste #227 closed the deal. Italian pedigree was simply a bonus. When I rode my Bianchi Professional in triathlons, criteriums and my first Climb to Kaiser, white was the only color bar tape I gripped. If you remember the original Bennotto tape (really, almost like electrical tape), then you know from whence my passion for white comes. It was metallic, made a statement and was unlike most safe bets. Imagine my heart palpitations when I spied this lovely Bianchi fixie, complete with white tape and white saddle. Fizik, no less. Also a personal fav. Although I’ve logged more than 4,000 miles this year on a Moots Vamoots and Specialized Tarmac Pro SL, I still heart Bianchi, which makes it the Wednesday Crave. 1. Pista Crave-ah My first real racing bike was a Bianchi Professional in Celeste #227. The hue remains one of my all-time favorites and a forever companion to Fausto Coppi, even if most of his photos are in black-and-white. Before shutting down the computer for the night, I did a quick scan of...
  2. Magic carpet ride Any reader of this blog knows I’ve got a serious crush on my Moots. It’s been that way since I set eyes on her in 2005 and took my first Moots-inspired bike ride. If it came down to a choice of one bike today, the decision would be simple: titanium. Exotic...
  3. Wearing well I spent the past week snapping photos around Central Oregon during rides on vacation. Color, of course. The green surroundings require it. The iPhone camera works best this way. Today from the desktop computer indoors, black-and-white looks right. Not sure why. Maybe because if I were surrounded by tall pines...
  4. Celluloid Cycling This weekend, the Bike Film Festival comes to San Diego. It’s the first time ever. And you know what? Feels overdue, now that I think about it. Long a draw for serious road cyclists, including pros (I recall seeing Team 7 Eleven on training rides pre-1984 Olympics out Ramona way;...
  5. Gracias, danke, merci, grazie, thanks It goes without saying that today in the U.S. is one heckuva day of gratitude. There will be hugs. Smiles. Sighs. And maybe a few tears. Forget rush hour on the freeway. Or horns honking. I’ve heard none blare yet as the 7:30 a.m. hour approaches. Today’s the closest we...
