Ah, summer. Sun. Surf. Fun. Not yet. After riding in sub-50 degree temps last weekend up on Palomar Mountain for 8,400 feet of climb in 22 miles, I came down with a wicked bug.
The bad news: I spent five straight days off the bike, a personal record for the past 15 months. Funny it coincided with the first week’s launch of BikeCrave.
The good news: Getting sick just inside of three weeks before a big event (Climb to Kaiser) ensures you (a) don’t overtrain, and (b) rest. With a sore throat and general awfulness, I didn’t overtrain and boy did I rest.
For fun tonight I sifted through my Garmin data for 2009. Here’s the skinny:
YTD Miles: 3,638
YTD Feet Climbed: 260,027
YTD Cycling Enjoyment: 100%
At a Penny per mile, the number works out to $36.38 to a cause of your choice. If you’re game, I’ve made it easy for you to fire some cash directly into a Livestrong account set up over here. You can also help out Team Will through this site here. Giving back helps you feel good, and you’ll probably ride stronger as a result just on Karma alone. Have a great weekend and be safe.
