Penny per mile: the week that was

by jeffbean on June 20, 2009

Happy to be over the health funk that had me down the previous week. Feeling better. Climb to Kaiser is next Saturday. This week is about staying healthy and beginning the taper for the big effort. Here are my numbers for the past week, as well as year to date:

Miles: 192

Feet Climbed: 12,348

YTD Miles: 3,830

YTD Feet Climbed: 272,419

At a Penny per mile, that’s an easy $1.92 to a cause of your choice this week. If you’re more ambitious, $38.30 for the year. If you like the Livestrong movement, I’ve made it easy to fire some pennies directly into a Livestrong account set up over here. I don’t touch the dough. To date, we have 2,000 pennies ($200) toward a goal of $250. I’d like to blow through that cap, and raise the ante by end of July. I’ll be hitting up my office colleagues this week in advance of Kaiser and its 155 miles with 14,000 feet of climb in a single day. Hope you can chip in. You can also help out Team Will through this site here. Good people (@velostream on Twitter)

I can’t say this enough: Giving back helps you feel good, and you’ll probably ride stronger as a result just on Karma alone. Have a great Father’s Day, cycling Dads, and be safe.

After riding in sub-50 degree temps last weekend up on Palomar Mountain for 8,400 feet of climb in 22 miles, I came down with a wicked bug. The bad news: I spent five straight days off the bike, a personal record for the...

  4. Odometer and alitimeter True fact: I’ve put more miles on my bikes this year than my car. It’s been awhile since I did the math. The numbers keep going in the right direction. A direction that humbles me, makes me thankful that I can be out there, and creates happiness. About 99 percent of...
  5. 5,017 / 346,814 Part of the enjoyment in riding is tracking progress. And you know when you’re doing better (or worse). The...
