Why I ride

by jeffbean on October 23, 2009

On Sunday, we honor those touched by cancer. These rides can be a bittersweet endeavor. But I prefer to look at them as a way to celebrate memories and be thankful for gifts among us. Livestrong.

24 special names. Thank you for giving me the privilege.

  1. The human race Today’s official. For the next few months, we no longer “save” daylight in what has been a great cycling year. For some, things transition to the indoor trainer or spin class. For others, saddle time will be limited to weekends and holidays away from the office, quarterly earnings and EBITDA....
  2. A privilege The Livestrong Challenge is less than a week away. Time to gather names to carry on my jersey over the 90-mile passage through “Hill Country” east of Austin. If you aren’t coming down for the event, but want to honor a cancer survivor or the memory of a loved one...
  3. Stars and bars and black and white With the Dauphiné Libéré happening in France this week, the countdown to the Big One starts. Le Tour. The Tour de France. Jeff,

Jane will smile all the way and probably laugh and giggle at the beautiful memories you will stir up. Thank you Hannah and Grace for the beautiful artwork.

PS: Jane was from Sweden and her closest friend was Hannah – what do you know!?

GT, I hope Jane did indeed smile and giggle. It felt like I had a lot of “help” in my legs during the ride — with the Texas winds and all. Thanks for sharing. My oldest daughter was very moved to learn of the coincidence in names. You’ll be interested to know my Hannah’s middle name is Jayne. Imagine that!
